Non voglio rappresentare graficamente o pittoricamente la povertà, la violenza fisica o psicologica, il degrado ambientale, ma neppure la bellezza generata solo ed unicamente dalla manipolazione della ricchezza, la sensazione di potenza quasi divina ed il sogno di felicità, ma voglio far riflettere su che cosa genera ciò per cui tutti noi ci affanniamo e spesso viviamo.
Per questo utilizzo come “materia pittorica” non i colori o la grafia, ma le riproduzioni di banconote stesse, che scelgo con cura, soffermandomi sulle valute che maggiormente evocano in me l'immagine della potenza economica e del sistema capitalistico (Dollari Americani, Euro, Franchi Svizzeri) e lo “accumulo”, in un gesto che fa parte ormai della nostra vita quotidiana.
E’ proprio in questo momento, dove tutto appare razionalmente controllato che affiora in me il gesto di ribellione: lo accartoccio volutamente, quasi in un gesto di sopraffazione e di rivincita interiore, e lo metto in scatola, quasi come un prodotto commerciale, a proteggermi dalla sua influenza, e in modo tale da creare uno spazio di distanza e di riflessione tra me e ciò che rappresenta “lui”.
Ed allora ritorno con la mente a tutto quello che i reliquiari mi ricordano, alla devozione che hanno suscitato o suscitano ancora in noi, alla loro capacità di evocazione del potere divino. Allora penso che farò della mia opera una sorta di reliquiario primordiale, di legno, fatto anche a mano, come veniva anticamente fatto e per il gioco degli opposti gli appongo la mia impronta, per ricordare che in questo reliquiario non c'è nulla di divino, ma solo la debolezza dell'uomo.
Lo chiudo con del materiale trasparente, proprio come in un reliquiario prezioso, come in una vetrina in cui il prodotto esposto è ambito da tanti, ma anche come in uno scrigno, verso un cammino pericoloso che stiamo percorrendo e per enfatizzare il "mal scritto" e quanto tutto può negare l'apparenza delle cose, gli dichiaro con un carattere volutamente spigoloso il mio amore ed il mio proselitismo”.
I don’t mean to depict poverty, physical and psychological violence, the environmental decay, graphically or in a pictorial way, but I don’t want to the beauty generated only by manipulating affluence, the almost divine feeling of power and the dream of happiness, either. What I want to do is make you ponder on what we live for and bustle about. That’s why I don’t use handwriting or colours as a pictorial subject but I rather prefer the reproduction of banknotes carefully chosen, lingering over the currency that makes me think about economic power and capitalistic system such as American Dollars, Euro, Swiss Franc and stockpile it, an action that is part of our day- in day-out life. And it is at that precise moment, where everything seems to be under control, that my rebellion comes to the surface: I crumple it on purpose, almost a gesture showing that I can overcome the feeling and take revenge and put it in a box, as if it was a commercial product, so that I can protect myself from its bad influence in order to create a distance between myself and what it represents. And then I go back with my mind to what the reliquaries remind me of, the devotion they provoke, their ability to conjure up the divine power.
Then I think that my work will be a sort of primordial reliquary, handmade and wooden, as it was historically carried out, and for the sake of the opposites game I’ll put my fingerprint, in order to show that what is in this reliquary is just the weakness of the human being, and nothing divine.
Subsequently I wrap it with a transparent matter, as it was a precious reliquary, like a window where the product displayed is sought- after by loads of people, but also like a treasure chest, towards a dangerous path we are taking. In order to emphasize the “written evil” and all that can deny the appearance of things, I declare my love and my proselytism with a purposefully edgy character to it.
